As the last school day before Spring Break, today was utter madness. I was at my wit's end when Amber, Professor Hackett and Darren (OG) arrived at school. Timing could not have been better. My students spent the last half hour of the school day engaged and listening to Professor Hackett read "Skippy John Jones" to them. It was wonderful to get a chance to relinquish control over the class for this moment of time. It also allowed me to do two things: 1) observe a master teacher at work as she invested the students in the book that she was reading and 2) re-develop an affection for my children.
Because my cousins Mariah and Meredith are in town but have to leave Sunday, Easter dinner was held tonight at the Craven residence. It was an incredible spread and a wonderful opportunity for Amber's folks to meet my family. Beyond the food, however, the evening was fantastic, with great conversation, and a bit of debating over topics ranging from the condition of education in our country to the future of technology. It was an excellent time spent with some truly excellent people.
